The Tenants 1
The Tenants 1
The TENANTS 2 was my first blurb about the abuse of Latin American TENANTS who rent the condo above mine. I own mine. Therein lies the problem.
You know from the previous blurb that a dog in their unit urinated all over my condo balcony and things did not go well for the TENANTS.
The story really begins sometime in December of 2017 after we had purchased the unit and moved in. It was a tough time for us as we had moved out of our daughter's home where we were for 6 weeks while she was 9 months pregnant and finally delivered a healthy granddaughter. But it was getting more difficult because we were living in floor removal and floor installation hell. But that is another story to be told later.
During this floor installation time I was hiding out in the bedroom (which has a door on it and a master bathroom attached to it) for privacy. My wife was out at a religious meeting. I heard what i thought was someone knocking on a door and lots of loud voices.
But you must understand that I only have 45% of my hearing and my hearing aids skew my understanding of reality, so I didn't really think too much of the noise. Why? The men were using gigantic hammer chisel machines on wheels to jackhammer out the tile and sticky butyl underlayment of the existing floor to prepare it for the new floor. So the loud voices could have just been the workmen talking over the hammering dust cloud making machines.
I emerged later to learn from the workmen in halting English and my google translate for their Cuban Spanish that a small man from upstairs in the condo above had walked in to the apartment without permission. He yelled at the men to stop what they were doing. He could not take the sound and they must quit and not continue on. I learned later that he complained to the management , but we were following management rules and regulations. Everything was approved and we were supported by management.
So this TENANT thought he could trespass into my Condo, and stop the work. I also learned that he knocked on my bedroom door, but the men told him to get out. There were four workers to him, so he was outnumbered and the workers continued on. Later, I reported this to the management. They interviewed him and he admitted that he had taken these actions. I was told by management that the Tenant was issued a letter of warning and a fine.
Okay. that's that. Nope.
The floor was installed - what a disaster ( to be written about later)! We began to settle in. This includes sitting out on the balcony in the mornings before the hot sun climbs round to our eastern view of Hollywood and chases us back in. One day I was enjoying a coffee and reading the news on the balcony and a torrent of water pours down onto the balcony deck. What the heck!!! Fortunately, I wasn't hit by the water, so I continued on with my coffee.
That should have been the end of the water situation, but it wasn't. About a week later my wife was out on the balcony in the early afternoon and a torrent of water cascaded down the balcony glass and all over the balcony floor narrowly missing her. While she was trying to compose herself from the shock of this event, she heard a knock at the door.
Knocks at the door in our condo are answered in a timely fashion and always entail removing our chihuahua from his stance at the door, so sometimes our response is not always timely, depending on our dog's cooperation. So, my wife answered the door to a frustrated and irate neighbor from the condo directly below us. He claimed, "Water from up here is pouring onto my balcony!"
My wife replied, " I know, it is pouring on mine too. It is coming from above us!"
So the neighbor below went his way to complain to management and my wife quickly called management to explain what had happened. Management checked with the TENANTS above and sure enough, they had dumped their cleaning water from cleaning the condo down several balconies. So the TENANTS of the Condo above received a warning letter and a fine. And you already know from the previous blog that nothing will be done except possibly a denial of a lease renewal by the management. The owner of the Condo lives in Bogota, Colombia, so I expect no reaction ever from the owner.
So we are now counting one dog urination, two separate water dumps and one trespass from the Latin American TENANTS of the condo above us. We have been told that numerous complaints about the TENANTS are on file. Of course I will never see the complaints unless I hire an attorney and file a lawsuit. As a retired school teacher on a tiny pension, that will hopefully never happen.
Anyway you now know the saga of the TENANTS. Hopefully there is no Tenants Part 3. Stay tuned in for further posts including Floor Installation Hell. Perhaps I will throw in some phots for effect in that post.
